One of the biggest myths of international cuisine is aphrodisiacs. Many believe that eating a special part or a very particular animal or plant will increase their sex drive, as well as the motility of their sperm, making them even more suited to impregnate their spouses or any other female that happens to cross on their way.

Whether the intention is to increase the motility of the sperm or increase the sex drive, eating parts of plants or animals hasn’t really been adequately scientifically proven to increase both sex drive and sperm count. And it must be said that in most countries it is even illegal to consume parts of certain animals.

Care must be taken, too, if you’re trying to fall pregnant, to avoid foods which have been proven to be harmful to a potential pregnancy. If you’re trying to fall pregnant and consume something you believe will help, you have to be sure! Oysters, for example, are said to be an aphrodisiac but can be harmful to a pregnancy.

Some foods, such as those high in zinc, have been proven to increase sperm quality, but research is needed on your part to make sure you’re eating the right thing to increase the chances of conception – taking someone’s word for it is never a good thing.

Nonetheless it is important to emphasize that the best aphrodisiac for both pregnancy and sex is romance; having your lover cook for you will definitely increase your sex drive and this will, in turn, create the right atmosphere for baby-making!
